Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to the most common questions about hearing tests, hearing aids, and our services.

Common signs include frequently asking people to repeat themselves, turning up the TV louder than others prefer, difficulty following conversations in noisy settings, and feeling like people are mumbling. If you experience any of these, a hearing test can help identify the cause. Adults over 50 should have their hearing checked every few years as a baseline.

OHIP covers hearing tests for children under 18 and adults over 65. Adults aged 18 to 64 need a physician referral for OHIP coverage. Without a referral, a private-pay hearing test is available at all Sense of Hearing locations. The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) also provides up to $500 per ear for eligible Ontario residents purchasing hearing aids.

Your first visit typically takes about 60 minutes. Your Audiologist &/or Hearing Instrument Specialist will review your hearing history, examine your ears, and conduct a series of painless hearing tests in a soundproof booth. Afterward, they will explain your results in plain language and discuss any recommended next steps. There is no obligation to purchase anything at your first visit.

Yes. Sense of Hearing Kids is our dedicated pediatric program, offering gentle, child-friendly hearing evaluations for children as young as 10 months. Our Audiologists &/or Hearing Instrument Specialists are trained in pediatric assessment techniques and use specialized equipment designed for younger patients.
